The Mitochondrial Theory of Aging
Explains Why These Supplements
Make You Look and Feel Younger
Mitochondria are you cellular powerhouses. They are responsible for all of the body’s activities. Aging is inactivity, that is, you don’t grow old. You shrink old.
Simply living destroys your mitochondria. Remember the second law of thermodynamics? The entropy – that is, disorder – of the universe is decreasing. As the human body is exposed to the hazards of existence, the physical make-up of the cells become disordered. Mitochondria die.
Reports of the death of mitochondria are not exaggerated,
Though they can can be mitigated.
These supplements have all been shown to boost your mitochondria.
CoQ10.
CoQ10 is the third-most-doctor-recommended supplement. Every man over 50 needs this to preserve his heart. Though nowhere near 50, I take it to preserve my mitochondria. CoQ10 supports mitochondrial function, and prevents the degradation of mitochondrial.
Acetyl-l-carnitine.
Acetyl-l-carnitine prevents the degradation of mitochondrial. It also helps release stored fat for energy.
R-alpha lipoic acid.
Alpha lipoic acid is one of the most powerful anti-oxidants available. It protects the mitochondria from free radical damage. Although any ALA is better than non, it’s best to take the R-polymer form. (Or, if you can afford it, take the Na-R version.)
Cinsulin.
Cinsulin is a blood sugar regulator and insulin mimicker. High blood sugar kills mitochondria.
Pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) is the final supplement in my mitochondria stack.
Here’s why I take it:
When pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) is added to an amino acid-based, but otherwise nutritionally complete basal diet, it improves growth-related variables in young mice. We examined PQQ and mitochondrial function based on observations that PQQ deficiency results in elevated plasma glucose concentrations in young mice, and PQQ addition stimulates mitochondrial complex 1 activity in vitro. PQQ-deficient weanling mice had a 20–30% reduction in the relative amount of mitochondria in liver; lower respiratory control ratios, and lower respiratory quotients than PQQ-supplemented mice (2 mg PQQ/kg diet).”
