Yes, I’m a chocoholic and have been for years. I eat the 85% stuff, because there’s actually a low of research showing the health benefits of dark chocolate. I would eat 600 kcals of dark chocolate when in the best shape of my life.
I didn’t eat dark chocolate because it was healthy. There was a neurochemical effect, which is a fancy way of saying FEELING or BUZZ. Dark chocolate makes me feel good.
And there’s a reason for this feel-good effect. The answer is in PEA – which is short for phenylethylamine.
PEA is a trace amine whose molecular mechanism of action differs from biogenic amines, such as serotonin or dopamine. Especially low or high concentrations of PEA may be associated with specific psychological disorders. For those disorders that are characterized by low PEA levels (e.g. attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), PEA has been suggested as a ‘safe’ alternative to drugs, such as amphetamine or methylphenidate, which are accompanied by many undesirable side effects.
PEA also boosts dopamine levels.
Dopamine is the “motivation” chemical. If you have higher levels of dopa, you’ll accomplish more. If you have lower levels, you’ll lay around all day doing nothing.
Using a brain mapping technique called positron emission tomography (PET scan), the researchers found that “go-getters” who are willing to work hard for rewards had higher release of the neurotransmitter dopamine in areas of the brain known to play an important role in reward and motivation, the striatum and ventromedial prefrontal cortex. On the other hand, “slackers” who are less willing to work hard for a reward had high dopamine levels in another brain area that plays a role in emotion and risk perception, the anterior insula.
Phenylethylamine boosts dopamine levels, as shown in, “β-phenylethylamine Requires the Dopamine Transporter to Increase Extracellular Dopamine in C. elegans Dopaminergic Neurons.”
β-phenylethylamine (βPEA) is an endogenous amine that has been shown to increase the synaptic levels of dopamine (DA)
Does this mean taking supplemental phenylethylamine could increase dopamine levels, leading to good feelings and more motivation?
Perhaps, although there’s a problem.
Phenylethylamine has a half-life of between 5 and 15 minutes. (Half-life is the amount of time it takes for a chemical to lose 50% of its effectiveness.)
This also explains why people keep eating chocolate. You get a PEA spike, which is fleeting. More chocolate. More PEA. You chase the dragon.
Supplementing with PEA alone doesn’t have much effect, as any results are exceedingly short-lived.
The Hordenine / Phenylethylamine Stack
Around 5 or 10 years ago the bros started experimenting with a hordenine / PEA stack.
Hordenine is a plant compound that naturally occurs in beer, and some research suggests hordenine contributes to the mood-boosting effects of beer.
Moreover, hordenine antagonised D2-mediated β-arrestin recruitment indicating functional selectivity. Application of our databases provides new perspectives for the discovery of bioactive food constituents using VS methods. Based on its presence in beer, we suggest that hordenine significantly contributes to mood-elevating effects of beer.
On fitness and bodybuilding forums, users hypothesized that hordenine would inhibit the breakdown of PEA. Their results were remarkable. The effects of PEA were extended.
How much Hordenine and Phenylethylamine are people stacking?
The bros (and I) take 250 to 500 mgs of PEA and 15 to 25 mgs of hordenine together. This stack keeps my mood elevated.
Hordenine and PEA are sold as a “stack” on Amazon as a mood booster and weight loss agent, although the weight loss angle strikes me as a stretch. In theory any mood booster may cause you to eat less if your caloric intake is due to seeking sugar-like rushes.
Hordenine and PEA are also in the top focusing agent available today – Gorilla Mind Smooth.
Each capsule of Smooth contains 75 mgs of Phenylethylamine and 5 mgs of hordenine.
As part of my morning routine, I take 3 capsules of Gorilla Mind Smooth with a double espresso. This combination gives me extreme focus without any jitters.
A lot of people hate supplements, and that’s cool.
I’ve used supplements since my early 20s. I’ve tried it all because, having grown up poor, “normal” for me meant being broke.
Normal for a lot of other people is a middle class life, although people are starting to see that you can’t settle. The jobs are gone. You figure out a way to make it in life or you’re screwed.
People seem to get really triggered when I write about my experiences.
I wish those people wouldn’t read me, and one of my biggest problems is getting rid of angry political people who don’t want to take care of themselves and who have no desire to optimize their lives.
I can understand that not everyone wants to live as I do. That’s totally cool.
But why do people get triggered and scream at me for not wanting to settle for a normal life.
And the truth is that all of the most creative and successful people are using LSD, DMT, taking supplements, and many event use prescription medication.
And if you don’t know that Jezz Bezos is on Testosterone Replacement Therapy, you need to shed your childhood illusions. Grow up.
I’m currently getting back into fighting shape.
Breaking news increased cortisol levels, leading to muscle mass loss and fat gain. There’s a reason journalists don’t look that healthy. This business is not good for you.
I’ve been fat, fit, and jacked.
And right now I’m sloppy. The good news is that I know how to completely alter my body in 12 to 16 weeks.
Being jacked is the best way to go through life.
And if you have a problem with my life, you can be an adult and ignore what you don’t like.
If you want to take your life to the next level, check out the Gorilla Mind line of products.
